In any Singapore hawker center is your kopi stall with its strong coffee aroma surrounding the area. At Golden Mile Food Center, Lawrence Tan is brewing your local kopi using an espresso machine unlike the traditional sock brewer many kopi hawkers use.
Lawrence with his experience as a former petroleum trader introduced his own coffee blend. Each cup of coffee has a smooth nutty flavor that is neither too strong nor too acidic.
Upon launching Kopi More, Lawrence began persuading hawker patrons to try out his coffee. Slowly his passion, persistence and deliciously good kopi won the hearts of the community and coffee lovers.
Kopi More is selling ground coffee for $40 SGD per kilo ($20 SGD per 500 grams). Customers usually buy ground coffeee before going abroad.
As a husband and father, Lawrence has sacrificed a lot of his time to operate Kopi More. Spending a less time with his family has been a struggle at first but this also has provided a good lesson to his kids to become independent and be on their own two feet.
Lawrence believes that coffee must maintain affordability for everyone while maintaining high quality. His goal is to take Kopi More beyond as a neighbourhood coffee stall into a Kopi More brand coffee reachable to people’s home.
Lawrence prefers to be an entrepreneur rather than go back as an employee for big corporation. Lawrence believes Asians now must become fearless to invest in themselves and not to be content as employees at a big multinational corporations.
Kopi More brings quality coffee with affordability to the community. Lawrence believes his aromatic coffee blend can reach every person’s home. His drive to become fearless encourages him to bring Kopi More to new heights.
