Poh Cheu sells a huge variety of Ang Ku Kueh in Bukit Merah. Poh Cheu makes handmade Ang Ku Kueh with soft pastry and very dense filling that just bursts with flavor at each bite. Ang Ku Kueh is also known as Red Tortoise Cake which is a round shaped pastry made commonly from glutinous rice flour with a filling inside typically peanut.
Poh Cheu takes pride in making handmade kueh. Just behind the stall counter are several people working to make kueh available for everyone. Making kueh is not easy and takes dedication and hard work especially to mass produce kueh on an almost daily basis. What makes Poh Cheu unique is the delicious filling inside the kueh and the pastry itself is soft, chewy and wraps the filling in thin layer.
Seeing how your food is made from scratch makes you appreciate it even more. Aside from ang ku kueh, Poh Cheu also sells other variety of kueh like soon kueh and peng kueh. There are so many flavors of ang ku kueh to choose from. Aside from traditional ang ku kueh mixed with peanut, there are green bean, yam, black sesame, red bean, mango, green tea, durian, coffee, pineaple, and coconut to choose from.
Hopefully one day I get to visit again and learn more about Poh Cheu’s story. Their ang ku kueh is definitely a must get.
